Talk:Creature type/History
Splitting out content
This page seems to have expanded well beyond the GCTU itself. Perhaps there should be a "Timeline of Creature Type Errata", with an abbreviated subsection for the GCTU that points to this as the main article? --Corveroth (talk) 05:59, 30 August 2015 (UTC)
- I'm quiet attached to this article, because it took a lot of research / work to create it. However, as long as the information isn't lost, I'm OK with your proposal. --Hunter (talk) 07:15, 30 August 2015 (UTC)

- What I don't understand is the comment that starting with 5th Edition the hyphens where introduced in the comprehensive rules. Because Mirrodin is the first example that I could find.
- Might this be about Oracle text? - Yandere-sliver (talk) 05:59, 3 August 2025 (UTC)
Multiple subtypes
Comparing 6ED and BRB rule 212.2 from the website: https://academyruins.com/archives.
- 6ED
212.2. Some card types include subtypes, printed on the same line. EXAMPLE: "Creature - Minotaur" means the card has type creature and creature subtype Minotaur. "Enchant Creature" means it has type enchantment and subtype enchant creature.
- BRB
212.2. Some card types include subtypes, printed on the same line. If more than one word is listed after the “—,” the card has each of those subtypes.
212.2a Creature subtypes are listed after the “Creature,” separated by a long dash: “Creature — Minotaur,” “Artifact Creature — Golem Legend,” etc. Creature subtypes are one word each and are also called “creature types.” Creature cards may have multiple creature types listed. EXAMPLE: “Creature — Minotaur” means the card has type creature and creature type Minotaur. (Creature type is a subtype.) “Creature — Goblin Wizard” means the card has type creature and creature types Goblin and Wizard.
This leads me to conclude that multiple subtypes essentially came into existence with that rules update. In 6th edition the legend subtype could be appended to other subtypes.
- 6ED
215.1. The word "Legend" or "Legendary" may be added to a card type or subtype. This means that the permanent created when that card enters play is subject to the Legend rule (see rule 420, "State-Based Effects") as well as the rules for its type.
That leads me to conclude that Elder Dragon Legend essentially became Elder-Dragon & Legend and Elder-Dragon was split further in Battle Royal. - Yandere-sliver (talk) 22:35, 2 August 2025 (UTC)
