Red soldiers

In Greensleeves cycle there are soldiers said to come from the southern peninsula of Aerona, clearly Barbar. I'm going to upgrade the page, but first I wanted to know if these soldiers are inspired by some cards. They are like your typical Spartano or Roman soldier, bronze-skinned, "in armor like fish scales. They wore tunics and kilts of red, and red-plumed helmets. Each carried a round burnished shield and short sword, and a javelin slung at his back". I tried looking at the older cards, but I can't seem to find a matching picture (not Akroan Legionnaire, they are different characters in the novel).
