The Smoke Mountains are a rugged and elevated region located in the northern portion of Aerona on the plane of Dominaria.[1] They lie to the northeast of the Whispering Woods, forming a prominent geographical feature in the landscape of northern Aerona. The range is home to a variety of inhabitants, including the ogres of the Short Hand tribe, who occupy the more northerly stretches of the mountains, and, farther to the northwest, the stone giants who dwell in the higher and more remote areas.
Description
Within the bounds of the Smoke Mountains lie several notable settlements and strongholds. Among them is the town of Bywater, a settlement whose surrounding lands suffered repeated disturbances at the hands of the wizard Gurias. Another is the fortified city of Myrion, a walled settlement that endured a siege conducted by the half-giant wizard Immugio.[2] At the easternmost tip of the mountain range, where the rocky slopes descend toward the shores of the Sea of Whales, stands the fortress of Hammerheim. This position at the edge of the range gives Hammerheim both a defensive advantage and access to maritime routes, linking the Smoke Mountains with the coastal waters beyond.
