Planeswalker Series
The Planeswalker Series is a Japan-exclusive official Magic: The Gathering player program at WPN stores that was initiated in April 2025.[1]
Description
In the Planeswalker Series, local game stores can choose between "Casual" and "Competitive" formats, according to the type of players they want to play.[1]
History
The Planeswalker Series is the spiritual successor to the Planeswalker Championship (PWCS) that was initiated in Autumn, 2019. It was like a Japanese version of the Store Championship, with exclusive promo cards featuring art by Japanese artists.[2] From April 2023, a new series of Standard tournaments was started with a more casual take. This was called the Planeswalker Friendly Match (PWFM).[3] This was well received by many people, but on the other hand, there were also requests from stores and players who preferred more competitive initiatives. In response, the Planeswalker Series finally introduced a modal system where stores can choose their preferred format.[1]
