Noriyuki Mori is a Japanese professional Magic player, who made his name in the Kaldheim Championship in 2021.
Professional play
The Kaldheim Championship was Mori's first Top Finish, and indeed his first premier level event.[1] He had been playing any online event he could find over the previous few months, and had been a frequent innovator in the Standard scene. While he began playing MTG Arena in 2019 "just for fun" that changed once he hit No. 1 in Mythic ranking — a feat made possible with his more than 24,000 games played online.[2] He showed his deckbuilding skills at the Championship, as he piloted a unique Gruul Food list to a 6-1 finish on his run to the Top 8.
Mori's fourth place in the Kaldheim Championship provided him with access to the 2020–21 Challenger Gauntlet, again bringing a rogue choice in the form of Izzet Control.[2] Finishing in the Top 2 with Arne Huschenbeth in this play-off tournament, he was rewarded with a place in the 2021 World Championship and in the 2021–22 Magic Pro League.[3]
