Michael Nurse is a South African former professional player and five-time National Champion. He narrowly missed making the Top 8 of the inagural South African Nationals in 1997,[2] before winning back-to-back titles in 1998 and 1999. A subsequent slump in form coincided with the 2001 Grand Prix Cape Town - the only one ever held in South Africa - before he came back to win three more Championships in 2003, 2005 and 2006. At the 2006 World Championships Nurse became the first South African player to finish in the Top 16 of a Pro Tour event.
