The Martyrs' Tomb, also known as the Heroes' Memorial, is a memorial in Urborg, part of the Burning Isles of the Domains, on the plane of Dominaria.

Description

The memorial was erected on the former site of Crovax's mansion, which had been demolished to pave the grounds for the monument.

The monument listed the names of those who died during the war and featured a pillar called the Heroes' Obelisk carrying busts of Urza and Gerrard Capashen at its highest point.

It has the following inscription:
Honor the brave who fought
Honor the dead who fell
Honor the world they saved

History

The Martyrs' Tomb was erected by the planeswalker Freyalise on the shores of Urborg in memory of those who died during the Phyrexian Invasion of Dominaria.

People used to go on pilgrimages to the tomb as a symbol of hope in terrible times. The site was still visited by many Dominarians at the time of Karona.[1] Over the century that had passed since the Phyrexian Invasion, the tomb had become a popular tourist destination, with sandy beaches and lovers' paths, a bright tropical forest surrounding it, exotic birds singing, and visitors frolicking in the waves and holding hands in the moonlight. But when Karona left the plane and took her magic with her, the glowing glyphs of the tomb flickered out, leaving the area in utter darkness. There was a massacre in that darkness, with stalking panthers pouncing on and eating the pilgrims and amorous tourists that had remained after the glyphs faded. The site of the Martyrs' Tomb was quickly abandoned by visitors after that, and without anyone to tend to the area, the swamps of Urborg started to encroach on it, and over time, reclaimed the site as a marshy, misty area, even after the magic glow of the glyphs had returned.[2]

In 4557, the tomb was visited by Elspeth Tirel and Koth of the Hammer for inspiration as they were planning an assault on the Phyrexians on Mirrodin.[3]

Sixty years after the Mending, the tomb had been desecrated by Belzenlok's Cabal, who called it the Fools' Tomb.[4][5] Belzenlok himself has taken his claws to the primary inscription, engraving demonic characters as a message of warning to the world.[6]
