José Ignacio Barbero is a former Argentine professional Magic player. He later became a successful and famous poker player.
Career
The South American Magic community burst onto the professional scene in 2001, placing several players in the Top 8 of premier events. José Barbero emerged as the strongest and most consistent player from that continent, finishing in the Top 8 of Pro Tour Yokohama in 2003[1] and winning Grand Prix Porto Alegre in 2005. While living in France for a time, Barbero forged friendships with many of that country’s top players and remained part of the elite French playtesting network.[2]
One of his friends, Gabriel Nassif, suggested he try online poker and gave him access to his $850 PartyPoker account. The young and gambling Nacho spent an entire night playing, losing all his money, trying to figure out a strategy. He was upset that he had let his friend down and began to learn poker from the Internet. By 2003, Nacho was spending more time playing poker than Magic: The Gathering, as poker had more opportunities to make money. Barbero became known for his brash and aggressive style of play. His talent and poker prowess caught the attention of poker professionals and fans around the world. He became one of the most successful and respected poker players, gaining the recognition of his opponents for his playing skills and strategy.[3][4][5]
