Gadiel Marcos Szleifer was an American professional Magic: The Gathering player. His successes include wins at Pro Tour Philadelphia 2005 and Grand Prix Salt Lake City 2006, as well as two more Pro Tour top eights.
When sixteen-year-old Gadiel strode into the Top 8 of Pro Tour Philadelphia 2005 wearing a Taking Back Sunday T-shirt, he bore the weight of a nation on his shoulders. The U.S. hadn't put a competitor into the finals of an individual event since Pro Tour Venice two years prior. He emerged victorious and put the U.S. back on the map, then finished the season as the top North American in the Player of the Year race.[1][2][3]
Gadiel died in his sleep at age 28 in September 2017.[4][5][6]
