Felix Leong is a Singaporean former professional player and National team member who is known for playing aggressive monored decks.

Career

Leong's professional Magic career had two main peaks. The first was in 2005, where he was runner-up in the Singaporean National Championships. He also qualified for Pro Tour Los Angeles that year, where he played an Extended Sligh deck to the unlucky number nine finish. Then, to cap off the year, he was part of the Singapore team that finished in fifth place at the 2005 World Championships.

Leong would make the National team again in 2015 and 2016, before making his best professional finish at the 2017 Pro Tour Hour of Devastation.[1] Leading up to the tournament in Kyoto, Leong and his friends were particularly moved while visiting one of the city's famous temples. They prayed for success and brought a special lucky Komodo each that they vowed they'd wear in the finals should they make it. Leong would honor this pact when he faced Sam Black in the quarterfinals; a Ramunap Red mirror match.[2] The match went to game five, where Black's higher seeding giving him the play and sideboard choices which were more focused on the mirror than Leong's made the difference.

Notable decks

Leong played a monored Sligh deck to 9th place at 2005 Pro Tour Los Angeles;[3] the fetchlands were included to fuel Grim Lavamancer. The format was a fresh, post-rotation, Extended. The release of Ravnica: City of Guilds earlier in the month had caused Tempest, Urza's Saga and Mercadian Masques blocks to leave the format and a new meta had yet to have solidified. Leong's characteristic red deck was consequently a great meta choice.
