Deadguy Ale is a nickname for a type {W}{B} aggro-control deck which pairs discard or land destruction effects with efficient and disruptive creatures.[1] It is primarily known from historical Extended and Legacy formats, but is also commonly played in retro community formats like Old School 93/94 and Premodern.

History

Deadguy Ale named after the "#2 Rogue Deadguy Ale: A Homebrew" Legacy deck that Chris Pikula placed 2nd with at Grand Prix Philadelphia 2005.[2][3] The deck's name is a pun on a popular beer made by Rogue Ales in Oregon. Pikula was part of Team Deadguy and the deck was considered to be a Rogue deck and a brew (a new, non-established deck).
