Is it worth considering removing the category and putting all these teams into one list page? So many of them are stubs, and many are defunct. Keeping separate would be interesting if there was enough journalism on current teams, but even someone dialed in as an observer, the number of teams that matter is always in the single digits and the members are variable and often not public, as many are not qualified for any particular Pro Tour. - With the exception of ChannelFireball, I think that is a sensible thing to do. All these pages were created by MagicRage in 2007 and haven't been touched since. The page could be used to ad information on modern teams as well --Hunter (talk) 03:22, 9 October 2025 (UTC)
- I think there is an argument for keeping teams pages, and expanding what we have... this kinda ties into what I'm doing with old Pro Tour events etc. I can see Pacific Coast Legends, Team Deadguy, The Hitmen etc being worthy of pages. However, given the scale of what I'm doing already I'm not going to put my hand up to lead the charge. So maybe merge for now, but be open to the possibilty of branching things back out again if anyone wants to take ownership and put the time into doing things properly. - Your expertise might be useful; from your archive trawling, how deep have the records been about the teams of the past? The big argument on this is that we have much larger pages and I anticipate the overall page length to be minor in comparison to something like Storm Scale. ChannelFireball gets a pass as it's also the long-running name of a company and tournament organizer, but many others, even those on the Pro Tour Team Series, don't have much beyond members and dates. The "notable trios" part probably only boils down to a handful as well, given how trios stopped being a big thing and ceased to be entirely after 2018. If you consider the information you've found to be enough to support each individual page, it could be worth taking a look at.Shield (talk) 08:57, 9 October 2025 (UTC)
- I'm only really just starting to come into the "Dojo Era" of event coverage now that I'm working on the 96/97 pro season; this is pretty early Internet. But I'm starting to see Teams forming, and their pretty cringey flame wars on Usenet, cropping up more in stuff I'm looking through. Early print copies of Sideboard seem to put a decent amount of focus on the teams too: in the news/rumours column there's mention of such and such team looking like they've lined up some big sponsorship arrangement. And so on.
- This is to say that even though I've not really been seeking out this information, I've been coming across it. I suspect that as I move closer to 1998 there'll be more and more of it, especially as you start seeing decks like Team Deadguy's "Deadguy Red" etc having a big impact on competitive play.
- I do think I could probably pick one of the more notable teams, do some heavy research and come up with a fairly strong, informative article on them. But it's a matter of priorities, and I think creating or expanding pages for Pro events, individual players, and/or famous decks/archetypes is much higher impact. - I have started one step, which is to put all the trios onto one page. As noted, the fact that four of them are fully American is likely a bias that would be corrected with further historical delving. Given that your project of cataloging the Pro Tours is currently at the '97 season and the teams really start up in '99, whether or not it should be one page or many should wait until at least then.
