A utility creature is a relatively small creature that fills a universal function. It can be used in most decks of the appropriate color.[1] Most often, utility creatures are understood to be not simple powerful beaters or defensive creatures. Instead, they are creatures that have the best abilities for changing the game in itself.[2]
They are that is intended to remain on the battlefield and provide a useful or even important effect, often activated, but by default does not get involved in combat, things like Mana creatures, pingers, tappers,

- Life gain: Soul Warden, Auriok Champion, Essence Warden, Soul's Attendant
- Protection: Mother of Runes
- Ping: Cunning Sparkmage
- Rule-setting: Spirit of the Labyrinth
- Control: Grand Abolisher, Aven Mindcensor, Containment Priest
