Do weirds count as elementals?

So weirds are described as a "subspecies of elemental" but is that just flavor or does it affect gameplay? Like say a card (e.g. Chandra, Novice Pyromancer) has an ability that affects elementals you control, would it affect weirds as well? I would think there would be a ruling about this, but there are none listed on this page. --24.22.89.140 00:15, 22 January 2020 (UTC)
