Core set, Expansion, or Supplemental?

Should we count this as an expansion? --Hunterofsalvation (talk) 07:44, 20 February 2021 (UTC)

Or is it a a supplemental set? --Hunterofsalvation (talk) 17:20, 18 March 2021 (UTC)

Being legal in Standard marks it pretty cleanly as an expansion - it might have enough trappings to call it a core set (simple mechanics, "neutral" flavor a la Shandalar, low impact on main storyline), but it seems definitively more than supplemental. 220.238.226.31 19:59, 18 March 2021 (UTC)

Ok thx. We will count it as an expansion. --Hunterofsalvation (talk) 06:56, 19 March 2021 (UTC)
Yah, expansion set. I assume we'll keep seeing expansion sets where core sets used to be until the next time they change their minds on release patterns. - jerodast (talk) 19:19, 4 February 2022 (UTC)

Class cycles

Why the monocolor class cycle and the bicolor class cycle miss in the table? They aren't a cycles? Cleric, Wizard, Warlock, Barbarian and Druid are a cycle in my opinion and Fighter, Monk, Rogue, Bard and Sorcerer are a second cycle. Is there a reason why they are missing? To me, the Paladin and Ranger classes throw off the cycle concept for monocolors, and the bicolors don't go through a typical 5 step sequence. Paladin and Ranger make an extra monocolor class for white and green, although they are rare, so you could argue there is a distinct 5 color cycle of monocolor uncommons I guess. The bicolors have 3 blues, 3 reds, 2 whites, 1 black and 1 green, which is a weirdly asymmetrical mix. When I looked at the set it felt more like "we have 14 classes, we picked some colors that seemed right and tried to have a mix of combinations", but it didn't jump out as cycles to me. That said, you could certainly add the monocolor one as a cycle...not sure if the 5 bicolors really qualify since it doesn't follow an enemy-color or ally-color pattern, or really any pattern at all. Obviously if there are references from designers that there were intentional cycles among these, that would be worth adding! (And, maybe they'll make more classes in the future and complete a bicolor mega cycle!) - jerodast (talk) 19:16, 4 February 2022 (UTC)

Should the Signature Spells be added as a Cycle?

We have 5 mono colored instants and sorcerys with the name of a legendary creature in the set, I feel like that is a cycle that is missing form the page. Or is it considered an incomplete cycle because the green one doesn't roll a dice like the rest of them?

The spells in questions are:

Lae'zel's Acrobatics

Gale's Redirection

Myrkul's Edict

Wyll's Reversal

Jaheira's Respite
