Talk:Capenna
Capenna
Would it be incorrect to just call this plane Capenna? In the Command Zone video they refer to it as "Capenna," as well as at a few points in the story articles, most notably Episode 5 when referring to the history of the plane before the city:
Histories of Capenna hidden in Xander's office spelled out the story: In the distant past, the Phyrexians made an attempt on this plane. The angels tried to stop the invasion, but the threat was too great for them to face alone. In desperation, they formed an alliance with the Demon Lords. In the face of the Phyrexians, Capenna's own rivalries were petty; however, those rivalries would not be forgotten. The demons ultimately betrayed the angels, trapping them in a kind of stasis from which they could convert the angels' bodies into Halo, an essence that—as Xander had told her—could be taken to help protect the city. It was messy, but it worked. The Demon Lords used Halo to defeat the Phyrexians and then disappeared themselves.

- I believe it could be the same. I don't understand why there is so much mystery surrounding the name of this plane. I asked on the official profile what the name of the plane is, but they have not responded so far. I think we have to try to put pressure on the people who worked on this set for an explanation or a name.
- Do note that previews, despite the cards coming out, have not officially started yet. I imagine the "Planeswalker's guide to X" will be around in the next couple of months. If that hasn't given us the name by then, feel free to pester, I suppose.

- Yes, kind of annoying. In the Command Zone video they say: "Old Capenna is the reference for the way the world used to be, essentially what they call the Kingdom Era. New Capenna is literrally built upon Old Capenna, and the plane itself we hear some references of. New Capenna is specifically one location, the city that was build up in the sky. But there is not enough outside of it, that there is a separate plane name. So you can call it New Capenna, you can call them New Capennan or Capennan, I think both work". --Hunterofsalvation (talk) 03:47, 6 April 2022 (UTC)
- Our esteemed admin Jay Annelli, nowadays Lore Master of WotC, is being coy[1][2] but this answer seems to be the most unambiguous. Which was the name of Elspeth's homeplane when it was an high fantasy plane? Was it Capenna? Answer: I feel like people are trying to ask me the same question in different ways. Yes, way back when it was Capenna. Today they refer to that as Old Capenna.[3] Lets wait for the Planeswalker Guide and then make a desicion. --Hunterofsalvation (talk) 04:37, 13 April 2022 (UTC)
- Hoping that Jay will join the discussion, because he states that his blog is unofficial and we still don't have anything official to source the name. --Hunterofsalvation (talk) 01:09, 18 April 2022 (UTC)
- On the Discord, Jay refers to the official video, stating there is no separate name for the plane. --Hunterofsalvation (talk) 05:25, 18 April 2022 (UTC)
- He expands futher, now clearly stating that the plane used to be called Capenna, and is now called New Capenna.[4][5][6] --Hunterofsalvation (talk) 15:44, 18 April 2022 (UTC)

New Capenna
OK, it seems to be confirmed that the plane is now called New Capenna. The leaves us with the following options:
- Renaming Elspeth's home plane to New Capenna, and renaming New Capenna to New Capenna (metropolis). Or
- Renaming Elspeth's home plane to New Capenna (plane), and leaving New Capenna as is. (cf. New Phyrexia (plane), Dominaria (plane))
- Ignoring the above discussion, renaming Elspeth's home plane to Capenna, and leaving New Capenna as is.
Thoughts? --Hunterofsalvation (talk) 15:48, 18 April 2022 (UTC)
- I don't have a huge preference, but I would say the second option is more in-line with other plane pages that call out the plane like Dominaria or Amonkhet, and people are more likely to be looking for the city than the plane anyway, so I'd go with 2. Just leaving this here
This lore card is a kind of official confirmation for New Capenna as the current name (an that the original name is unknown) --Hunterofsalvation (talk) 04:36, 24 April 2022 (UTC)
- Though Mark Rosewater says it's Capenna https://magic.wizards.com/en/articles/archive/making-magic/word-streets-new-capenna-part-2-2022-04-25 --Hunterofsalvation (talk) 16:01, 25 April 2022 (UTC)
- They can't keep their story straight. The planeswalker's guide says the name of the plane used to be Old Capenna. Kind of strange, since they wouldn't have known that there would be a New Capenna. --Hunterofsalvation (talk) 16:21, 28 April 2022 (UTC)
- I do love the idea of the prescient Capennans naming the plane "Old Capenna" to begin with, but it seems like the section supports the "just Capenna" theory. It's titled "Capenna Before" and says "There was a plane out there centuries ago, one of many cities, kings, cultures, and wonders. That Capenna, Old Capenna, is gone." I don't have a strong feeling on naming the page since obviously Wizards can't even keep it straight, but there's definitely points on both sides here. DayoftheNinja (talk) 23:37, 28 April 2022 (UTC)
- Rosewater's latest blog: "The plane is Capenna."[7]
