Corondor (/kɔːrəndɔːr/ KOR-ən-dor[1]) is a large island (or small continent) on Dominaria just north of Jamuraa, bordered by the Golthonor Sea.[2] Many of the stories in the Armada comics took place on Corondor. It was the setting of the Planeswalker War.

Description

A tremendous mountain chain called The Spine runs down the center of Corondor and roughly divides it into three named lands: Stonehaven to the west, Casindral to the south, and Golthonor to the east. In the north lie the Northern Ice Wastes. It lies two thousand miles north of Jamuraa and a few thousand miles to the east of the Domains.[3]

History

The ancient kingdom of Corondor was called the Iron Kingdom.

The planeswalker Ravidel used an artifact known as the Mox Beacon to lure other planeswalkers to Corondor. He trapped them and forced them to battle until they were weak enough to be killed individually, in an event known as the Planeswalker War. There were six planeswalkers: three Conquerors - Leshrac, Tevesh Szat, and Geyadrone Dihada (who wanted to take over Corondor for themselves) - and three Defenders - Jared Carthalion, Kristina of the Woods, and Sandruu, who defended the land from the Conquerors. In the wake of that war, Corondor has fallen on hard times for centuries.[3] Corondor was also the birthplace of the family of Carth, and was plagued by Geyadrone Dihada in the time before the Brothers' War on Terisiare. It was the location of the Battle of Aster Fall, the birthplace of Jared Carthalion, and also the homeland of the wizard Mangara.

Around the time of the New Phyrexian Invasion, the island fell back under the control of Geyadrone Dihada, who hoped to lure Jared Carthalion into a conflict that could bring Dakkon Blackblade into her grasp.[4]

Locations on Corondor

  • Casindral - a prominent region known for its sweeping plains, which have shaped its agricultural traditions and patterns of settlement. It occupies a strategic mid-southern position between the lands of Stonehaven to the west and Golthonor to the east. The territory contains a variety of notable sites, including historic battlegrounds, coastal landmarks, and ancient woodlands. Its harbors and riverways have long served as important points for travel, trade, and migration.[5][6] See Casindral for more specific locations.
  • Golthonor - a region noted for its diverse and often harsh landscapes, ranging from desert sandseas to sprawling salt-marshes. Historically known as the Iron Kingdom, the land contains a variety of notable sites, including ancient city-states, mountain strongholds, and strategic waterways. Its varied terrain has shaped both the livelihoods and the conflicts of those who have inhabited it over the centuries.[7][5][6] See Golthonor for more specific locations.
  • Northern Ice Wastes White manaBlue manaBlack mana - a frozen land forming the frigid and inhospitable expanse at the farthest reaches of Corondor's north. Perpetually cold despite their latitude, their frozen state is attributed to the influence of an unusual oceanic current. The desolation of the region is so complete that survival there is regarded as a sign of either exceptional ability or utter madness. Legends speak of those who have journeyed beyond its horizons as having reached the very top of the world.
  • Stonehaven - a large and historically significant region in the western part of the continent. Its varied terrain includes fertile grasslands, dense woodlands, high mountain ranges, and coastal islands. The area features ancient fortresses, long-abandoned cities, and river deltas that have supported trade and settlement for centuries. Stonehaven's history is defined by the rise and fall of powerful rulers and the conflicts that have shaped its cultural and political identity.[8] See Stonehaven for more specific locations.
  • The Unholy Citadel Black mana - Geyadrone Dihada's mobile fortress, able to wander across the continent as she pleases.[9]

Surrounding waters

  • The Western Sea Blue mana - dividing Corondor from the Burning Isles
  • The Golthonor Sea Blue mana - east of Corondor, leaving toward Verdenth. One of the two long-daggers was hidden on the bottom of the Golthonor Sea and protected by the sea serpent Valthus.
