Description

The Great Salt Marsh is a vast wasteland in a desolate province. Comprised mainly of the two great swamps, Khone and Sulgh, as well as the Golthonor Torrent which feeds them through the Corthipan Inlet, the Great Salt Marshes cover a vast area of southeastern Corondor, from the edge of Shikar in the west to the Dueling Chasm of Golthonor in the north.

History

The Great Salt Marsh has seen its share of conflict, from Sivitri's War in Sulgh, to Geyadrone Dihada's conquest of southern Corondor, and under the rule of Sol'Kanar the Swamp King. Golthonor's coastal swampland once was a rich trade route between Khone and Shikar, the Contrary Kingdoms, but for many years they were forced to pay tribute to the Swamp King on the Date of Tribute. This lasted until the Dragon War, when Sol'Kanar took the side of treacherous Khone, and destroyed the city of Shikar.[1]

In later years, the marsh also saw conflict when in 4196 AR, the wizard Coldraith blocked off the Corthipan Inlet, draining the swamp of its life-giving water while at the same time flooding the plains to the north. Long-suffering under the ruinous taxes of the Golthan overlords, and filled with hatred for the visible symbol of oppression, the wizard Grenfell Mor, its people were well-armed, and ripe for rebellion in the time leading up to the Planeswalker War.[2]

Locations

  • The Golthonor Torrent Blue mana - the waterfall that feeds the Great Salt Marsh. The wizard Coldraith magically stopped the flow of water into the marsh and instead began flooding Plains of Coloni. The water returned to the marshes after Coldraith was killed by Altair and Caliphear.
  • Khone Black mana - the northeastern swamp, ruled nominally by the Lord of House Khone.
    • Khone Keep Black mana - The castle of House Khone.
    • Valley of Sacrifice - Location where the Khonians gathered all promising spellcasters and forced them to survive using magic. The strongest of these Numbered Ones were sent to Sol'Kanar the Swamp King on the Date of Tribute.
  • Sulgh Blue manaBlack mana - the southwestern swamp, at the mouth of the Golthonor torrent, separating the nations of Golthonor and Casindral.[2]
