A colorshift is a card that is functionally identical to an old card, with the crucial exception of its color. The most common occurrence of colorshifting is with simple creatures that are virtual vanilla or French vanilla, as colors rarely share enough spell mechanics at the same rate to warrant direct colorshifts.

The colorshifted cards have the same basic construction of the mana costs of their predecessors, such that, Angelsong from Shards of Alara, for example, whose mana cost is 1 generic manaWhite mana, would be considered a colorshifted version of Lull from Urza's Saga, whose mana cost is 1 generic manaGreen mana and whose effects and card types are the same. Angelsong would not be considered a true colorshift of Lull if its mana cost, for instance, was White manaWhite mana while Lull's is 1 generic manaGreen mana.

Planar Chaos

The 45 timeshifted cards in Planar Chaos (also known as planeshifted) are all colorshifts. The theming of Time Spiral block for Planar Chaos was alternate realities, so these cards reflected a world of a different color pie. Some became official shifts in pie, some remained acceptable in both colors, while a few were significant bends and would not be done again.
