The first Secret Lair Drop Series is a series of cards in the Secret Lair product range that were available as mini-sets for purchase from the Wizards of the Coast webshop secretlair.wizards.com, starting December 2, 2019. Each drop lasted for 24 hours.[3][4]
Description
The new “sub-brand” Secret Lair groups existing cards into small collectible sets with strange themes and wild new art styles. All cards have alternate art and a rare or mythic rare shooting star expansion symbol. The tokens have a common expansion symbol. The Secret Lair Drop Series are English only.
Each of the seven "drops" contains between three and seven cards and/or tokens in a customized collector box, costing either $29.99 or $39.99 depending on the drop – some of which use premium foil cards as well. A bundle became available for 24 hours on December 2, 2019, for $199.99 that guarantees all seven drops.
As an extra, each drop contains one of the 36 War of the Spark planeswalkers, featuring the stained-glass artwork first featured in the War of the Spark trailer.[5][6] These are numbered #501 to #536. Each drop only featured a card from a certain subset of the stained-glass planeswalkers, with the others released in future drops.[7]
Additionally, ordering a drop got you codes for digital purchases in MTG Arena and Magic Online. You’ll get the cards themselves in Magic Online, but since most of the cards in this series don’t exist in Arena, you’ll instead get sleeves as “expressions of the drop’s theme.”
There were unlimited quantities during the 24 hours of availability. There was a limit of 10 copies per drop per person. Wizards had a certain amount ready to ship and would print the rest on demand. Note that the fact that Wizards of the Coast is selling different amounts of cards for the same price, meaning that they are acknowledging that different cards have different values. This is the first time that they showed a willingness to acknowledge the secondary market.
