The Mephidross. Art by Rob Alexander.

The Mephidross (or Dross, for short) is a swamp of sludge, hazardous chemicals and waste, broken and cast off machines, and corroding metal on the world of Mirrodin. Necrogen, a vile mist-like chemical that transforms those exposed for too long, fills the air, belched from odd structures called "smokestacks." Nim, a race of zombies, once occupied the Dross. They were very numerous and, along with the already horrible conditions of the environment, made this region inhospitable to most life. The leonin and the people of the Razor Fields were the bitter enemies of the nim.

The Moriok, human occupants of the Dross, lived in scattered communities throughout the swamp. In the center of the swamps is Ish Sah, the Vault of Whispers, a large fortress that was used to control the activities of the swamp. Here Geth, the ruler of the Moriok, dwelt. The Black Lacuna was also located in the Mephidross.

Necrogen

Necrogen is a vile mist-like chemical found in the Mephidross. It is corrosive and transforms those exposed for too long into zombies. It is belched from odd structures called "smokestacks" and fills the air. The evil magic of the Necrogen Mists affects the Moriok's brains, exacerbating their natural human tendencies toward hate, aggression, and greed.

Necrogen is featured on the cards Necrogen Mists, Necrogen Scudder and Necrogen Spellbomb.
