Ovidio Cartagena is a Guatemalan Magic: The Gathering artist and Senior Art Director for Wizards of the Coast.[1]
Career
As Art Director, Cartagena has commissioned art for several expansions, including MTG’s first brand collaboration, the Godzilla Series Monster cards. Also for tentpole sets Strixhaven: School of Mages, Midnight Hunt, Crimson Vow and the Warhammer 40,000 Commander Decks; and contributed to other products like Secret Lair. His first set as Lead Art Director, headlining concept pushes and art commissions, was Phyrexia: All Will Be One.
Hailing from a fine art background, Cartagena has also worked as a graphic designer and classical guitarist. He's done art-related work for non-profits in Guatemala and the USA.
As an artist, Cartagena's first work appeared on the Mystery Booster test card Golgari Death Swarm.
