Masters Edition III is a online-only product for Magic Online, that was released September 7, 2009. The design focused on cards from The Dark, Legends, and Portal: Three Kingdoms. The set's two major mechanical themes were legendary creatures and horsemanship. A light tribal theme supported Kobolds, Minotaurs and Faeries.
Masters Edition III also introduced many famous Constructed cards to Magic Online. Black Vise, Nether Void, and The Abyss all terrorized players in the early years of Magic. Land Tax and Illusionary Mask have had entire decks built around them in the past. Mana Drain and Bazaar of Baghdad are both powerful enough that entire Vintage archetypes are built around them. Last but not least, Masters Edition III brought the five original enemy dual lands online.
Masters Edition III features 230 cards, including 70 rares, 70 uncommons, and 90 commons. These cards are not redeemable. Each Masters Edition III booster pack contained 15 randomly sorted cards (1 rare, 3 uncommon, 10 common, and 1 basic land). Premium cards were randomly inserted.
