We have a section for [[embalm]] tokens now, despite the intro saying that copy tokens aren't listed. Reasoning by [[User:Yanderesliver]] being that these tokens are not exact copies of the cards. By that logic, we should also list the copy token created by <c>Soul Separator</c>, for example. But in my opinion, the “not exact copies” thing is a bit arbitrary and it would make more sense to list all copy tokens in their own section. The problem with copy tokens is that the have the name of the card which is copied, which makes an incredibly high number of different tokens created by one card. As of VOW rules change, all tokens named only by their types now have "Token" in the name; this doesn't apply to Tokens given an explicit name. (Added to prevent people naming "Blood" from the split card and including Blood tokens apparently.) So technically a lot of token names here are incorrect :P Personally I don't think it's reasonable to include the word in every name in the table; it's repetitive. If someone was going to take the time, perhaps a new column with a checkmark for "is it named 'Token'", with an explanatory note at the top. Then again, I have trouble justifying the time for maintaining long lists like this, so I'll just start with the note alone.

== Tokens vs token cards ==
Thanks @[[User:RivalRowan]] for the clarification about the printings column. My edit on {{tl|Ape tokens}} was not a mistake about set contents but rather a misinterpretation of what "printings" meant based on current labeling.
If a column is supposed to be about [[token card]]s rather than tokens, I would recommend the phrase "token card" appear somewhere each of these tables is used, preferably in the table itself. For example, this talk page is for "Token/Full list", not "Token card/Full list"; [[Ape]] has a section called "Tokens", not "Token cards". My assumption was therefore that "printings" meant "printings of creators of these tokens", not "printings of token cards for these tokens", and some other readers may interpret it the same way. After all, you can use every single one of the tokens in this table without ever touching a token card; which sets those tokens came from may be of interest.
Perhaps the "Printings" column label could be called "Token card printings" instead. Or I suppose a note could be included before the table, or in the table footer for shorter tables, or maybe just a footnote. As is, the label is inaccurate or at best ambiguous, since the pages/sections/tables are overall about tokens, and include plenty of tokens with no token cards at all, yet this one column is about token cards and not the tokens themselves, without stating so.
I would also remind that Scryfall for instance provides token card search via [https://scryfall.com/search?q=is%3Atoken&unique=cards&as=grid&order=name is:token], and you can get as specific as you want (e.g. [https://scryfall.com/search?q=is%3Atoken+t%3Agoblin+unique%3Aprints&unique=cards&as=grid&order=name any Goblin-type token], [https://scryfall.com/search?q=is%3Atoken+%21bird+unique%3Aprints+pow%3D2+tou%3D2+c%3DU&unique=cards&as=grid&order=name 2/2 blue Bird tokens]). Maybe the printings column isn't even needed.

== Blood token footnote breaking things ==
I can't seem to get a footnote for Blood tokens into this table correctly.
As you can see in the edit history I tried to clarify some things in top section. This included reducing text about Blood tokens since really that is better as a footnote. On the [[Template:Blood tokens]] page it seems to be working fine, using this text for the beginning of the token list item:
:<code><nowiki>{{Token list item|{{{type|}}}|Blood|name=[[Blood]]{{efn|The full name of this token is "Blood Token". This means it does not have the same name as the "Blood" side of the card <c>Flesh // Blood</c>, and cannot be named for effects like <c>Pithing Needle</c>.}}</nowiki></code>
:<code><nowiki> |C|Artifact||{{1}},{{T}}, Discard a card, Sacrifice this artifact: Draw a card|</nowiki></code>
:<code><nowiki>*<c>Anje, Maid of Dishonor</c></nowiki></code>
:<code><nowiki>*<c>Arterial Alchemy</c></nowiki></code>
:<code><nowiki>*<c>Belligerent Guest</c></nowiki></code>
:<nowiki>...</nowiki>
Note that I'm using {{tl|efn}} (explanatory footnote) within the name parameter of the {{tl|Token list item}} template which forms the table row.
And it all looks fine on that page. But when it's transcluded into the full list, the item is simply missing. I'm a bit lost where the problem is. I know when it's transcluded it loses the header row, but that shouldn't have anything to do with the name param. It should be passing the name param contents into the {{tl|Token list item}} whether it's all transcluded or not transcluded (I think). I wondered if maybe there was some issue with the pipe within the <code>efn</code> template, like I needed <code>{{<nowiki>!</nowiki>}}</code> or something, but my understanding was that pretty much only comes up when you're trying to get a template to generate part of a table, which my <code>efn</code> is not doing. So I'm a bit stuck.
I'm leaving it as is for now in case anyone can debug it, but obviously if I can't solve in a day or two, I'll revert the change to [[Template:Blood tokens]] until I can figure it out. Appreciate anyone's help on this! - [[User:Jerodast|jerodast]] ([[User_talk:Jerodast|talk]]) 07:42, 31 March 2023 (UTC) |

Token cards
I think there should be an additional column about whether a token card has been printed for that token.
- Agreed. It should also list all editions in which the token was printed, perhaps with a link to magiccards.info. —Fenhl 13:22, 6 June 2016 (UTC)
- Ideally, we would solve this on our own site. I will ask if we can update the database to include token cards. - Yandere Sliver 18:07, 6 June 2016 (UTC)
- Why do that when we already link to magiccards.info for cards? —Fenhl 19:06, 6 June 2016 (UTC)
- Because mtgs has its own card database. Ideally the c-tags will link to the mtgs database in the future. - Yandere Sliver 19:17, 6 June 2016 (UTC)
- Can we start adding the cards anyway? We could link to magiccards.info directly for now, and change the links when the database is updated. —Fenhl 20:51, 28 June 2016 (UTC)
- I think ideally we use something like this: Template:Scryfall search. This why we always now where we used card links. When we switch databases we don't hunt down the whole wiki to switch then out. - Yandere Sliver 20:56, 28 June 2016 (UTC)
- That doesn't seem to work. We could change the token templates to use a template so we'd only have to update it in one place. I'll write one at User:Fenhl/Sandbox/Token list. —Fenhl 21:07, 28 June 2016 (UTC)
- I've put the template on {{Demon tokens}} and {{Spirit tokens}}. It seems to work as intended. The “printed in” column is empty for now, so we can easily change that once we figure out how we want to present that info. If no one objects, I'll move the template into the template namespace and start updating all the templates. —Fenhl 12:14, 3 September 2016 (UTC)
- Just commented on your talk page, but it is probably better to have the discussion here. I like it and I just realized that you did enough if clause testing. My only question would be that after the color, you have one parameter as far as I understand it it replaces the type of the token right? - Yandere Sliver 12:48, 3 September 2016 (UTC)
- Yes, it defines supertypes and types, but not the subtypes, and defaults to creature. —Fenhl 13:42, 3 September 2016 (UTC)
Column break
Could someone please add this to the wiki CSS? It will remove the bullet points in front of the leftmost column, and fix the card names being split into multiple columns.
.ul-column-count-3 > ul { list-style: inside none; } .ul-column-count-3 > ul > li { column-break-inside: avoid; -webkit-column-break-inside: avoid; }
Thanks. —Fenhl 13:46, 6 June 2016 (UTC)

{{Token list item|{{{type|}}}|Blood|name=[[Blood]]{{efn|The full name of this token is "Blood Token". This means it does not have the same name as the "Blood" side of the card <c>Flesh // Blood</c>, and cannot be named for effects like <c>Pithing Needle</c>.}}
|C|Artifact||{{1}},{{T}}, Discard a card, Sacrifice this artifact: Draw a card|
*<c>Anje, Maid of Dishonor</c>
*<c>Arterial Alchemy</c>
*<c>Belligerent Guest</c>
- ...
Note that I'm using {{efn}} (explanatory footnote) within the name parameter of the {{Token list item}} template which forms the table row.
And it all looks fine on that page. But when it's transcluded into the full list, the item is simply missing. I'm a bit lost where the problem is. I know when it's transcluded it loses the header row, but that shouldn't have anything to do with the name param. It should be passing the name param contents into the {{Token list item}} whether it's all transcluded or not transcluded (I think). I wondered if maybe there was some issue with the pipe within the efn
template, like I needed {{!}}
or something, but my understanding was that pretty much only comes up when you're trying to get a template to generate part of a table, which my efn
is not doing. So I'm a bit stuck.
I'm leaving it as is for now in case anyone can debug it, but obviously if I can't solve in a day or two, I'll revert the change to Template:Blood tokens until I can figure it out. Appreciate anyone's help on this! - jerodast (talk) 07:42, 31 March 2023 (UTC)
