Maro's Brother's War Teaser

Mark Rosewater gave his traditional teaser with the following hints.[1]

First up, here are some things you can expect:

Here are snippets of rules text, you’ll see:

  • “create a tapped Powerstone token for each other creature you control.” —
  • “Put a +1/+1 counter on target Assembly-Worker you control.” —
  • “Whenever one or more creatures with mana value 3 or less enter the battlefield under your control,” — Tocasia’s Welcome
  • “Permanents you control have ‘Ward – Sacrifice a permanent.’” — Mishra, Tamer of Mak Fawa
  • “Whenever you cast an artifact spell with mana value 6 or greater,” —
  • “For each card type among noncreature spells you’ve cast this turn,” — Hurkyl, Master Wizard
  • “Create a tapped 3/3 colorless Zombie artifact creature token.” — Ashnod, Flesh Mechanist
  • “Look at the cards in each pile, then turn a pile of your choice face up.” —
  • “gains your choice of flying, vigilance, deathtouch, or haste.” —
  • “Whenever you cast a Beast or Bird creature spell,” — Tawnos, the Toymaker

And finally, here are some creature type lines you’ll see:

  • Artifact Creature – Ape —
  • Creature – Mole Horror —
  • Artifact Creature – Phyrexian Wurm — Phyrexian Fleshgorger
  • Creature – Phyrexian Human Assassin —
  • Creature – Minotaur Barbarian —
  • Creature – Elf Druid Soldier —
  • Creature – Human Artificer Scout —
  • Legendary Creature – Human Wizard Advisor — Hurkyl, Master Wizard
  • Legendary Creature – Elf Druid Scout —

Callbacks

Card Referenced cards Referenced storyline Wiki page Notes

Other

  • Feldon, Ronom Excavator is holding Feldon's Cane.
  • This is the first set where Legendary characters (Urza and Mishra, to be specific) have had multiple incarnations in the same set. While Legendary characters often get new iterations in second or third sets in a block, this is unusual as mechanically, cards of the same character but not the same name have no relation to each other. This was previously done with Planeswalkers using Chandra in Core Set 2020, though having a planeswalker typeline makes them more connected.
