Top Finish
A Top Finish in Magic: The Gathering is a way to count a professional player's track record.[1]
Formerly, Pro Tour Top 8s and Grand Prix Top 8s were counted, but that system was muddled when Wizards of the Coast overhauled the system of professional play. As of 2022, the following events count as a Top Finish:
- Pro Tour Top 8s and the equivalent rebranded events during the 2019-2022 period
- Mythic Championship Top 8s/Top 4s (2019)
- Players Tour Top 8s (2020)
- Players Tour Finals Top 8s (2020)
- Set Championships Top 8s (2021-2022)
- Season Grand Finals Top 8 (2020)
- Mythic Invitational Top 8s/Top 4s (2020)
- Team Pro Tour Top 4s
- World Championship Top 4s (2012-current)
- Magic Online Championship Top 4s
For team events, a Top 4 team place is considered making a Top 8 for the individual team members.
In the current system, Grand Prix Top 8s are counted separately.[2]
The 2022–23 Pro Tour Season sees the return to paper Pro Tours but adds three digital Arena Championships. It is as yet unclear if the Top 8s in the latter category will count as Top Finishes.
