Mazik is a Joraga Elf that grew up in the same village as Nissa.

History

Mazik accompanied Nissa on her quest from her village, with the approval of her mother. He witnessed her newfound connection to Zendikar, and they were able to follow the trail of leylines leading them away from their village. Nissa and Mazik journeyed together toward the mountains of Akoum. Underway, the pair had to cross a swamp, where they were attacked by vampires. To save Mazik's life from the attackers, Nissa instinctively summoned Ashaya for the first time.

Later, as they neared their goal, they were caught in a dangerous Roil, and Nissa realized this phenomenon was the plane itself's reaction to the trapped darkness within. Once again, Nissa summoned Ashaya and managed to stop the Roil in its tracks through her connection with the land. Finally, Mazik and Nissa arrived at the Teeth of Akoum. The Eldrazi presence was so strong here that Mazik had to stay behind with Ashaya, while Nissa carried on alone. In the end, she channeled her bond with Zendikar and removed the failsafe from the dark prison. She thus released the Eldrazi from the depths of the mountain, hoping they would leave her home forever. However, as her mind touched the Eldrazi, the raw shock of their terrible power caused her Planeswalker spark to ignite, whisking her away to Lorwyn. It is unknown what happened to Mazik after that - if he managed to return to his village in Bala Ged, or if he survived the coming onslaught by the Eldrazi.
