Mark Rosewater is Head Magic Designer at Wizards of the Coast. At the moment he's one of the most influential people working on the Magic: The Gathering game. He's been on numerous set design teams and has leaded various important sets like Ravnica: City of Guilds, Unglued and Mirrodin. His name is often shorted to "MaRo", an abbreviation originally used by his co-workers at Wizards. In the Mirage set a creature named Maro was included as a tribute to him. Ever since, creatures with power and toughness equal to the number of cards in the owners hand are referred to as "Maros"

He's probably most known for his weekly column on mtgmagicthegathing.com. In “Making Magic” he gives magic players insight in the design process of magic cards and sets. These column have been a constant target of discussion, especially when they are about controversial topics like the color wheel and the sacking of Merfolks.

Because of his witty and chaotic written style, and the fact that he has judged the Unglued pre-release tournament wearing a chicken suit, Rosewater is often referred to as $%^# insane by some magic players. In his article Topical Blend #2 he parodied the miseting forum, which give him that title and is home to many of his most critical fans.

Mark Rosewater attended Boston University and has a background in comedy written, including most notoriously his writing for the sitcom Roseanne. He's married to Lora and has three children, Rachel and the twins Adam and Sarah.
