Magic variant formats are forms of Magic with alternate, variant rules.
Notable Magic variant formats
- Mental Magic (format): Mental Magic is a variant in which cards in a player's hand may be considered another card with the same mana cost (including color) when played.
- Emperor (format): Two teams, each generally composed of three or five players, play to ensure their central player (the "emperor") outlasts the other.
- PDC/Pauper Deck Challenge: This is an unofficial format often played at Magic Online. Players of this variant format are considered to be playing with a handicap by using only common cards; however, when all players in a game are playing this format, the handicap is not as evident, if at all.
- Standard Tribal Wars
- Magic: The Uprising (format)
