Magic variant formats are forms of Magic with alternate, variant rules.
Notable Magic variant formats
A variant where the cards in hand may count as another card when played as long as the alternate card has exactly the same casting-cost.
This is an unofficial format often played at Magic Online. Players of this variant format are considered to be playing with a handicap by using only common cards; however, when all players in a game are playing this format, the handicap is not as — if at all existent — evident.
