The Sultai Revealed

One of the five Clans of Tarkir, the Sultai Brood admires the ancient dragons' aspect of ruthlessness. The fang of the dragon is its symbol, [1] Their color wedge is {B}black (focus color), {G}green and {U}blue. [2] [3]

Description

The Sultai Brood is a decadent and merciless clan which lurks in ancient palaces in the steaming jungles of Tarkir. After striking a deal with the demonic Rakshasa, they employ necromancy to fuel their schemes of dominating the other clans. [4] The clan rules from Kheru Temple, deep in the jungles.[5]

Mechanics

Sultai cards will feature a mechanic that allows them to manipulate resources.[4] This was later revealed to be the re-introduction of delve (originally featured in Future Sight), an ability enabling players to exile cards from the graveyard to reduce the cost of spells.

Notable members

  • Taigam, human known as Sidisi's Hand, the personal enforcer of the Sultai khan. He is the former student of Narset, khan of the Jeskai
  • Feyomsi, a rakshasa sorcerer and necromancer that personally teaches Sidisi. He governs the necropolis of Ukud.
  • Ebirri, a rakshasa with whom Taigam made a pact. [6]

Trivia

The culture of the Sultai Brood is loosely based on the Cambodian steamy jungle pleasure palaces. [8]
