Revision as of 14:23, 10 March 2012

The abilities that are similar to deathtouch in many older cards is Venom (or Basilisk), named after the card Venom.

The latest rule from Oracle:

whenever (this creature) blocks or becomes blocked by (opposing creature), destroy (that creature) (at the end of combat)
whenever (this creature) deals (combat) damage to a creature, destroy (that creature) (at the end of combat)

Venom applies only on combat damage, but deathtouch applies any damage dealt to a creature. Some creatures have venom only destroys certain color or type of opposing creature.
