"Steve Conard, lead designer of Legends, was a big fan of movies and named the cards Backdraft, Cocoon, Field of Dreams, Moat, Raging Bull, and The Abyss after movies. Two other cards, "Star Wars" and "Beaches," were cut in development."
I seem to recall this being an Arcana or Ask Wizards question, and I further seem to recall it being a joke. Could someone verify this perhaps? I mean, "Beaches" doesn't even SOUND like a card name. VestDan 10:30, 3 July 2006 (CDT)
That is indeed its source. I don't recall it being called a joke, although it could simply be a coincidence. However, many early designers and developers used their own interests in naming and designing cards, including D&D characters, so I dont think this is beyond believeable, although it does appear to be arcana from April first, which i did not notice initially, so it could very well be a joke.
