Melira

Melira, Sylvok Outcast is a sylvok outcast destined to be an important figure in the Mirrans fight for Mirrodin against the Phyrexians. Her followers include Kara Vrist.

Story

Known as the "Fleshling", due to the lack of metal in her body since birth, Melira was abandoned in the forests of the Tangle immediately after she was born. She was rescued by Thrun, the last troll, who took care of her allowing her to survive. After Mirrodin became New Phyrexia, Melira became a central figure in the Resistance. Her Immunity allowed her, and others around her, to be protected from the effects of phyresis giving much needed hope to the survivors. After the transformation of the Tangle, she was forced to reside in the Furnace Layer in a camp near the Radix called Seedling, named after a story told to her by Thrun, where she leads the survivors from the attacks of the Phyrexians.

Quest for Karn

Melira tells Venser and his party that the oil only turns a being into a full Phyrexian if the heart is fully corrupted. By the time Venser reached Karn in the core of Mirrodin it was already too late. Melira cleansed the golem's body of the Phyrexian taint but she couldn't cleanse the golem's heart. Knowing his own life would soon be forfeit due to his increasing affliction symptoms, Venser made the ultimate sacrifice. With his last remaining mana he teleported his own still pure heart into Karn. Moments later Karn was released from the Phyrexian tyranny and mourns the loss of his friend briefly but turns to battle the Phyrexians, stating 'he still has a lot of work ahead of him'.
