Grixis is one of five Shards of Alara. It is primarily black-aligned, with blue and red as secondary colors.

The World of Grixis

Grixis is a hellscape of decay and madness, where necromancers command swarms of undead and demons walk the earth. Humanity is nearly extinct here; the survivors cower in hermitages, defending their life essence from rampaging horrors. Rampant death magic and demonic influence make Grixis an abominable destination best avoided by most. There are thousands of ways to die in Grixis, and very few ways to surive...at least for the living. The undead don't have it much easier as they require the vis (the life energy) of the living for their own strength and continued existence. The armies of necromancers frequently clash on the rotting dredgescape between crumbling necropolises. Afterwards, the black-winged karthari gather the bones and scrape them clean, except for the skeletons that can already shuffle off on their own to fight another day. Neither the lich-king Sedris nor the split-eye coven of witches, nor even the powerful demon-dragon Malfegor has control over this shard, but the feeling that something sinister is lurking deep in the darkness here is ever-present. From the once luxurious mansions of kederekt to the lightning-ignited burning lakes of the fire fields there are many frightening and powerful creatures on Grixis.
