Prerelease cards are cards given away for paying to play at prerelease tournaments. They are stamped or somehow marked to identify them as the prerelease card.
The following is a list of prerelease cards:
- Dirtcowl Wurm — Tempest, October 1997. The card was not foil; it was simply a normal version of the card with the word "Prerelease" and the Magic "M" stamped in gold leaf on the type line.

- Lightning Dragon — Urza's Saga, September, 26, 1998. The first foil card generally available.
