The Soul Bombs were built by Urza Planeswalker during the Phyrexian Invasion based on Thran design. They were taken by Nine Titans to Phyrexia to destroy that plane. The only way of fueling them was by capturing a soul. After betrayal of Tevesh Szat Urza fueled many of such bombs with that planeswalkers's life essence.
