The Plains
The Battlefield Forge

A peelable card was introduced to Magic: The Gathering in the 2021 Secret Lair Drop Series: MSCHF set.

Description

The bonus card for the MSCHF set was a Plains picturing a golf course. A thin metallic sticker can be peeled off the card, to reveal a Battlefield Forge, exposing the artists' true feelings about golf.[1][2][3] It looks to be a one-time option, however, as the possibility of reapplying the sticker in perfect alignment is low.[4]

Unlike modal double-faced cards (MDFC's), the two “modes” of this card (peeled and un-peeled) represent two separate cards that already exist in their own capacities. It’s completely unclear if this peelable card would be legal for tournament play, and if so, which of the two “halves” the card would be considered to represent.[5] Peelable cards also create an interesting dilemma from a legal playing standpoint, as it’s likely the card will be thicker than other MTG cards.[6]
