Reverse Threshold is a slang term used used by Magic R&D to describe the black and blue mechanic that gives a card different or additional characteristics if its opponent has a certain amount of cards in their graveyard. It is the reverse of threshold, because that ability word counts the cards in the controllers graveyard.[1][2]
Reverse threshold was first seen on Jace's Phantasm in Magic 2015 with a threshold of 10 cards. It then appeared in Throne of Eldraine with Into the Story (7 or more cards), while So Tiny and Vantress Gargoyle functionally have 7-card reverse-threshold, though both are not opponent-specific. Core Set 2021 followed with Thieves' Guild Enforcer (8 or more cards), and Zendikar Rising featured seven cards with reverse threshold (again counting 8 or more cards in the opponent's graveyard).
Several years later in March of the Machine, Sheoldred and See Double returned with the eight-card threshold.
