Reverse Threshold is a slang term used used by Magic R&D to describe the black and blue mechanic that gives a card different or additional characteristics if its opponent has a certain amount of cards in their graveyard. It is the reverse of threshold, because that ability word counts the cards in the controllers graveyard.[1][2]
Reverse threshold was first seen on Jace's Phantasm in Magic 2015 with a threshold of 10 cards. It then appeared in Throne of Eldraine with Into the Story (7 or more cards) and Core Set 2021 with Thieves' Guild Enforcer (8 or more cards). Zendikar Rising featured seven cards with reverse threshold, again counting 8 or more cards in the opponent's graveyard.
