They are not to be confused with the closely related nautili, squids or kraken. Octopi are intelligent creatures, but lack the sentience of their humanoid versions the cephalids.
There are only four cards with the creature type Octopus. The first creature to bear the type was Giant Octopus from Portal and Starter 1999. It was followed by Lorthos, the Tidemaker from Zendikar, and Sealock Monster and Godhunter Octopus from the Theros block.
