Squid is a blue creature type used for cards that depict marine cephalopods that feature eight small tentacular arms and two large tentacles. Unlike the closely related octopus, squid have hard spines that define their distinct mantled heads. They tend to flock in large schools, although larger versions may be solitary. Not to be confused with nautili, krakens or the sentient Cephalid.

For a long time, there were only three cards with the subtype Squid: Fylamarid from Tempest, Sand Squid from Mercadian Masques and Gulf Squid from Prophecy. All were just Beasts, before the subtype Squid was created in the Grand Creature Type Update. Magic 2015 added the Squid Horror Chasm Skulker.
