Sorin Markov is a vampire planeswalker and a master of sangromancy, a dark corner of black mana specialization. With this blood magic he can drain the lifeforce of other beings, place curses on enemies, and even possess the minds of others. Sorin Markov is the oldest living planeswalker except Nicol Bolas, though unlike Bolas he has dedicated his existence to following his whims, and this easy life of pleasure has brought him detachment and easy confidence. Having seen hundreds of planes over thousands of years, he has become a sort of bon vivant, seeking novelty and new diversions. But despite his fundamentally hedonistic nature, Sorin does feel the pull of more lasting concerns, and over his long life this tendency has resulted in an arcane schedule of engagements and forays to far-flung planes. As a result Sorin is a busy man, planeswalking frequently to pursue concerns known only to him. Sorin always seems to have business elsewhere.
Imprisonment of the Eldrazi
One such concern was that of the Eldrazi. Aether-born monstruosities that consumed one plane after another, Sorin decided to ally with two other planeswalkers and defeat these abominations. An unnamed lithomancer would force the Eldrazi to take physical form, Sorin would use his life leeching magic and Ugin would defeat them with his invisible breath. But the plan went awry: the Eldrazi were forced into physical form, but the three planeswalkers weren't powerful enough to defeat them. The three were forced to comprimise, instead of killing the Eldrazi Sorin lured them onto Zendikar where they imprisoned them, dooming the plane and it's inhabitants but saving the multiverse. The three agreed that if the results of their ritual were ever to be disturbed, all three would return to Zendikar, and they departed. Some centuries later the Eldrazi managed to free themselves from their prison, but not from their physical form, and unable to depart they started to consume Zendikar. Sorin and his allies returned to Zendikar and imprisoned them once more.
Return to Zendikar
After millennia the Eldrazi grew restless once more, and Sorin returned to Zendikar as per their agreement. However his fellow planeswalkers are yet to be seen. It is revealed in "Enter the Eldrazi" that Ugin was captured or killed at the hands of Nicol Bolas, who stated that he would wait to see who would answer the call of Ugin after the Eldrazi Brood were freed by Sarkhan Vol, Jace Beleren and Chandra Nalaar. Sorin is forced into action and allies himself with Nissa Revane, an elf planeswalker who wants these monsters off of her plane.
