Mire Boa River Boa A River Boa that hates on black instead of blue. The only Snake in Planar Chaos
Mirri the Cursed Mirri, Cat Warrior Black Mirri, Cat Warrior with changed abilities and an additional ability. The only Vampire in Planar Chaos. Being a black vampire creature with flying, she is similar to Ascendant Evincar, whose place she took in the storyline (see Crovax, Ascendant Hero).
Muck Drubb Blood Pet Both art show similar creatures.[5]
Necrotic Sliver Vindicate Necrotic Sliver gives slivers Vindicate as an activated ability.
Needlepeak Spider Giant Spider A Giant Spider with reversed stats. The only Spider in Planar Chaos.
Pouncing Wurm Pouncing Kavu Green Pouncing Kavu that trades first strike with bigger stats and an extra +1/+1 counter upon being kicked.
Retether Replenish Replenish that focuses only on auras.
Ridged Kusite Guided Strike A black spellshaper that casts Guided Strike minus the card drawing ability. Name is an anagram of the spell it shapes, which is appropriate given that it is the creature featured on the original Weatherlight version of that card.[6]
Riftmarked Knight White Knight, Black Knight A White Knight with flanking that can create a Black Knight with flanking via its suspend ability. The only creature in Planar Chaos with Protection from Black or flanking
Saltfield Recluse Sanctum Custodian.[7] A Sanctum Custodian that reduces power rather than preventing damage.
Serra's Boon Phyrexian Boon[8] Mirrors of each other
Shade of Trokair Hoar Shade A white Hoar Shade with suspend. The only Shade in Planar Chaos
Sophic Centaur Gerrard's Wisdom A green spellshaper that casts Gerrard's Wisdom. The only Centaur in Planar Chaos.
Spellshift Polymorph Whereas Polymorph affects creatures, Spellshift affects instant and sorcery spells.
Stingscourger Man-o'-War.[9] A Man-o'-War is fastened to the end of the Stingscourger's stick, thus explaining Stingscourger being a red Man-o'-War.
Timbermare Thundermare A cheaper green Thundermare with echo. Timbermare was made as a tribute to the wife of longtime Magic writer Jamie Wakefield who had sadly passed away from cancer. Jamie always referred to her as his “lovely Mare”.[10][11]
Torchling Morphling Red's version of Morphling.
Utopia Vow Pacifism, Utopia Tree A green Pacifism that turns enchanted creature into a Utopia Tree.

Fa'adiyah Seer Sindbad Its name, Fa'adiyah, refers to the forest on the plane of Rabiah.

Keen Sense Curiosity Keen Sense represents a moment in the Exodus storyline that could only have occurred had things transpired between Mirri, Crovax, and the dark angel Selenia very differently.[12]
Ovinize Humble, Ovinomancer The sheep art also refers to Ovinomancer, who has the ability to turn creatures into sheep.
Piracy Charm Funeral Charm The only timeshifted member of the Charm cycle (see Cycles section on set's page).
Porphyry Nodes Drop of Honey. Porphyry Nodes is a near-anagram of "Drop of Honey." This hearkens back to a time when Magic names used near-anagrams more often. For example, "Onulet" is a near-anagram of "Soul Net," so named because of its life-gain ability.
Primal Plasma Plasma Elemental, Primal Clay Mechanics and Art. The only card timeshifted from an artifact.
Prodigal Pyromancer Prodigal Sorcerer Ability and flavor text.
Riptide Pilferer Headhunter Riptide Pilferer depicts a merfolk spy lurking under the docks of the Riptide Project, the wizards' laboratory off the coast of Otaria where cephalid and human mages traded secrets and replicated slivers.
