Example of a text box with rules text and flavor text

Rules text defines the abilities of a Magic: The Gathering card'.

Description

Rules text is contained within the text box of a Magic card and is not italicized like reminder text or flavor text.

Generally, Magic card text runs between 7.5 and 9 points in font size, and it is the editing department's job to make sure that the text is large enough to be readable, that there aren't unsightly blank spaces, and so on. There are also certain rules about separating abilities and flavor text with blank lines, which prevents awkward text layouts.

Trinket text

"Trinket text" is rules text on a card that is more for flavor than mechanics.[1]
