For other uses, see Oracle (disambiguation).

The Oracle is a database of every printed Magic card and the current wordings on them. Oracle can be consulted via Gatherer.[1]

Description

Oracle is especially necessary for old cards that do not use modern formatting of their text to make them understandable. Most Universes Beyond cards are not available on the Oracle (neither are their Universes Within counterparts if the UB card was printed first). The only card that is not available on the Oracle for technical reasons is +2 Mace.

At least six times a year, coinciding with the major set releases, the Oracle is updated to incorporate rules changes or, rarely, functional changes to cards that do not work as intended.

One of the biggest changes made to the Oracle was the Grand Creature Type Update, affecting almost 1,200 cards.[2] Another one, affecting about 300 cards, was the introduction of the colorless mana symbol with Oath of the Gatewatch.[3][4]
