U/G Madness is a blue-green aggressive deck with a few control elements. It is based around the Madness mechanic. The original deck design came out of Odyssey block constructed and has been transferred from there with next to no changes is cards. Discard outlets such as Wild Mongrel and Aquamoeba were used to quickly and cheaply play cards like Basking Rootwalla and Arrogant Wurm with Madness. Lesser discard outlets like Merfolk Looter and Waterfront Bouncer were also sometimes included. The deck also tried to get other cards into the graveyard. Wonder for example would grant flying to all of the deck's creatures and Roar of the Wurm could be played more cheaply with Flashback. The deck's blue component also includes countermagic such as Circular Logic or Daze and Card draw in form of Careful Study (also a discard outlet), Deep Analysis, Intuition and later Gifts Ungiven.
Over the years, the deck saw only slight modifications from its core, the biggest of which being the inclusion of Chrome Mox and Umezawa's Jitte. However, when the Ravnica: City of Guilds introduced the Dredge mechanic, many decks started to splash into black to use Psychatog which could quickly be grown to lethal size.
