Task counters are a type of counter introduced in Theros Beyond Death. They make it so a creature loses its abilities and cannot attack or block until they are removed.

Description

Task counters first appeared on the Heliod's Punishment in Theros Beyond Death. It is an aura enchantment that enters the battlefield with 4 Task counters on it. The enchanted creature loses all their abilities and cannot attack or block until all the Task counters are removed. It has an activated ability to remove one of the counters. Once all are removed, the enchantment is destroyed. The counters represent tasks the creature must complete before it can do anything else.
