Mattak was a human ranger and member of Yasova Dragonclaw's hunting party, two generations after the Khanfall on Tarkir.
Description
Mattak was one of Yasova Dragonclaw's most dependable companions, characterized by his discipline and skill as a hunter. He, along with his comrades Oiyan, Darka, Rakhan, Sorya, and Fec, demonstrated loyalty and competence throughout their journey. Mattak had a rugged appearance typical of a seasoned hunter, carrying a knife and exhibiting a readiness for combat or defense as needed. Mattak was perceptive and inquisitive, as shown when he asked about the potential for an Ojutai trap, reflecting his cautious nature. He also displayed a sense of duty and vigilance, fulfilling his role as a sentry with dedication.
History
Mattak's journey with the group was marked by vigilance and dedication. As one of Yasova Dragonclaw's most trusted hunters, he played a crucial role in ensuring the group's safety during their perilous journey. During a confrontation with an Atarka broodling, Mattak's sharp senses and timely warnings were pivotal. He was on sentry duty when he spotted the approaching dragon, giving the group precious moments to take cover. Despite the chaos and danger, Mattak remained composed, continuing to fulfill his role as a guardian.
Later, when Yasova decided to shelter the group in the rocks to avoid a dragon tempest, Mattak was assigned to sentry duty around the concealed entrance to the rock chamber. Mattak's loyalty and readiness were further highlighted when Grandmother decided to harvest valuable organs from the fallen dragon. He was among those who stayed behind to guard Tae Jin, a task he approached with his usual diligence.
Despite the many threats they faced, including the potential of Ojutai clan members tracking them, Mattak's fate was to continue serving and protecting his tribe. He remained a steadfast figure, embodying the discipline and skill that defined Grandmother's most dependable companions.
