Durri is a capable and eager Rubblebelt raider and scout of the Zhur-Taa clan of the Gruul on the plane of Ravnica, friend to the shaman Kal.

History

One day Durri learned about the Rakdos massacre of Cecilee's Selesnyan vernadi and shared it with her friend Kal over food. She was eager to face the battle against the Rakdos raiders, but Kal was more skeptical and worried for her safety. The Rakdos killers were led by the infamous Massacre Girl.

Later that day, Nikya of the Old Ways declared war on the Rakdos, swearing revenge over the perceived killing of the Gruul infant Zi. None of the Gruul knew that Zi had survived the massacre, and was in the care of his uncle Ruzi.

Nikya forbade Durri to be part of the war party, but Kal was included. When they left, Kal tracked them from a distance. If he was found out, it could mean banishment or death. But every time Kal started to turn back, he thought about Durri rushing toward a horde of Rakdos spikers and it made him push onward. He could not abandon his friend.

Durri and the rest of the Gruul war party soon ran into the Rakdos raiders, and a battle quickly followed. Rakdos were everywhere, pouring out from the cracks and holes of the rubble like ants, but Durri's clan looked to have the upper hand. She held her own for a while, but the presence of a Rix Maadi bloodwitch and several unleashed demons put the entire attack at risk.

Durri suddenly noticed Kal was part of the fray and failed to notice a Rakdos flailer coming up behind him. The ogre hooked his flail into Kal's leg pulled him brutally to the ground, and started to pull him after the chain. Durri shouted Kal's name through the din of battle, but then something happened that surprised everyone.

With a blast of fire, Kal incinerated the grinning flailer. The ogre's arms and legs flew apart, leaving spiraling trails of smoke in the air. But that was not the end. Arcs of bounding energy flew from Kal and plowed into the demons like a blazing hammer that turned them into shrieking plumes of fire, then overflowed across the earth. Bolts of flame reduced the rest of the Rakdos to bone and ash in a blinding flash. Kal passed out.

When he awoke, he was face to face with Nikya and Durri, surrounded by Rakdos corpses and charred earth. Nikya told the wounded shaman that Massacre Girl had escaped, but that the Rakdos bloodwitch had been killed by Kal's spell. Nikya produced the witch's head, and Kal admitted he had learned the spell from watching the Izzet at work. Despite the fear that he might be killed or banished for using magic from outside the guild, he was instead rewarded with a smile from Durri, exclaiming that the supposedly Izzet magic sure felt like Gruul to her.
